September Julep Maven Box

September's Julep Maven Box looks like Fall as soon as you open it. The packaging is reminiscent of Fall leaves ready to be jumped into. Julep changed up a few elements of their packaging this month with a new box and new wrapper for the polishes. This month's Bombshell colors were Karmen and Daria. Karmen is a reddish burnt orange shimmer with gold glitter. It SCREAMS Fall. You look at it and just know it's the color of Autumn in a bottle. Daria is fashion's Fall color. A grey creme with a slightly blueish hue, 90s kids rejoice, it's perfect for it's namesake, moody and dark and right up my alley.
This month's beauty product is Bare Face Cleansing Oil. I'm anxious to try this since I've noticed my skin already getting a bit drier as we move towards the colder months.

August Klutch Club

Hey everyone,  sorry this one's posting a little late. If you keep up with my blog you know it's been a difficult month. My dog was put to sleep and family is visiting from around the globe so things have been hectic.
Anyway, on to the box. This month's focus was healthy eating and hydration, which is great because that's been a personal focus lately.
I haven't used the free week of Prep Dish or downloaded the 7 Day Summer Skinny Plan yet, but I'm hoping to get on that this week.
My boyfriend has been snacking on the Seaweed Snacks and said he thinks they're okay, but nothing spectacular.  I personally don't like seaweed, so I'll let him have those.
The Juice Beauty moisturizer feels very lightweight and didn't leave me greasy. It has a really pleasant smell to it too which is always a nice bonus. It's good to keep skin hydrated as we head into the drier months.
There were two products I was excited about in this box and unfortunately neither was spectacular. So long as my water tastes and is clean I'm happy, but I like trying different brands. Not that I need an entire menu's worth and a sommelier for it, it just needs to taste clean. So when I saw the Penta Water in the box it intrigued me. It seemed like the fanciest, fussiest water I'd ever heard of. It tasted like most other water and no cleaner or purer than what comes from my Brita. Maybe I do need that sommelier. I was also excited about the OMG! Food Company Antioxidant Powder since I love açai and this was a huge disappointment. I had it with water, but it can be used in smoothies or on yogurt etc. It was super bitter and unpleasant which was a shame.
The Nature's Bakery blueberry fig bar was really good and not as dry as some others. It made a great snack for a busy work day and held me over for a while.
The PopChips tortilla chips were probably my favorite. It was like a healthy bag of Doritos.
The only other product in the box I haven't tried yet is the Puracyn Wound and Skin Care since I haven't had any cuts (knock on wood) to try it on.
I didn't love this month's box as much as some of the previous ones, but it was still a pretty good box and a good value.

Drugstore Finds: EOS Basket of Fruit

I love EOS, I truly do. I think they make great products and I find them to be absolutely adorable. I already own a few of their lip balms, but had seen something about this summer set and had to have it. It can be found on their website for $12.99, but I got mine at Target for $10.99. It comes with 4 lip balms in limited edition flavors Fresh Watermelon, Pomegranate Raspberry, Strawberry Sorbet, and Summer Fruit. YUM! It's also a good value since they retail at about $3.50 each.
What's your favorite EOS product?
P.s. I'm sorry about the low light and quality on these pictures. I was using my phone and for some reason they came out a bit dark.

Saying Goodbye to a Friend

I'm writing this now because I don't think I'll be able to do it later.  To be completely honest, I don't think I'll be able to do much of anything over the next few days. I've never been much of a dog person, don't get me wrong I like dogs, but I've always owned cats. Many years ago we had a puppy for a brief 6 months and it broke my heart we had to give him away to give him a better life. 3 1/2 years ago a little old english bulldog waddled his way into our hearts around Christmas. I never even liked bulldogs, but everyone loves puppies. I was instantly smitten, even though my cat wasn't.  Over these few years he has grown into the world's largest lap dog. Weighing in at 92 pounds and thinking he can sit on your lap. He has beautiful blue eyes and the floppiest ears and the biggest heart you've ever known. He has just about the goofiest personality and he borders on manic for about 5 minutes before he becomes the world's laziest dog. I could go on and on. And maybe soon I'll post a few funny stories of the things he's done over the years. Today is going to be one of the hardest days of my life. Today I have to say goodbye to a friend, a part of of my family. On Monday night my dog was involved in a hit and run. The person driving was going fast enough to injure my dog's spinal cord, yet not break any bones. Its been 48 hours of treatment and he is still paralyzed from the hips down. We had hopes that he would recover despite it only being a 5% chance. When his condition was not improving we looked into the possibility of rehabilitation with another family, one who would be able to give him the round the clock care he would need. Unfortunately his condition has deteriorated past that point. So this morning my mother informed me that tonight we'll have to say goodbye. My mind is spilling over with what ifs and what abouts. I don't want to give up on him, but apparently there's nothing we can do. I'm writing this now because I know for days I won't be able to talk about it. I've spent the last 48 hours crying and holding his paw, stroking his ears and his big head and telling him to fight. We needed a miracle that just hasn't come. I've never had to say goodbye like this. I feel so guilty that I am helpless and I feel like I am disappointing him. I know in years to come I'll somehow make sense of this, but today it feels senseless. We're going to bury him in the backyard where he would want to be and I'll spend time with him. I know he'll never truly leave us, his paw prints on our hearts are just so big. I know that many people will have very fond memories of him, he was just so wonderfully outgoing and friendly. Tonight I'll tell him I love him one last time and his big blue eyes will say he loves me too. I'll miss you Dexter, but you'll always be at our side.

Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault August 2013

So excited! My first Le Métier de Beauté Beauty Vault box just arrived! I am more than impressed with it and I love that it comes with a hand written card. This is a prestige brand and I love these small touches. The subscription was $348 upfront and will only be available again in July of next year.
I was really hoping for the classic red lipstick I had seen around and lo and behold I got it! It's the matte lipstick in Signature. I love a red lip so I'm thrilled.  I also received the Kaleidoscope palette for lips in Bahaus, though I'm a little upset because it came in damaged, though I've contacted customer service to see if there's anything that can be done. There was also a Precision Liquid Liner in Noir. I love that it's a pen since it makes applying so much easier. There was also an included kabuki brush as a thank you gift.
Overall I was blown away with the amount I received and think it's an amazing value. The lip palette was wrapped in bubble wrap, but it wasn't enough, so I'm hoping they'll learn from feedback and improve that. **Update: I've heard back from customer service (very promptly I might add) and they're sending me a replacement. (Around the web I noticed other bloggers had similar problems with their palettes including the eye and cheek sets.)
Lipstick: $32
Lip palette: $95
Eye liner: $42
Kabuki brush: $85
Total: $254 which to me is amazing since it was $348 for the year (equivalent to $29 per month, which means I already got 10x the return.) The only thing I'd like to see in the following months is a product card since I had to do quite a bit of research on some products.

August NatureBox

This month's box focused on beach ready snacks. It only just came in and I've already tried most of them.

 This month's snacks were:

Lemon Tea Biscuits: Let me tell you I could eat these by the handful at any time of day. Addictive and delicious. They have a light, slightly sweet lemon flavor and I adore them.
Garden Tomato Almonds: I wasn't sure how I would feel about these, but they're actually quite good. They have a tomato garlic flavor to them and the box recommends trying them in a pesto and I definitely think that would work well.
Country Ranch Sunflower Kernels: I haven't tried these yet, but they do sound really good. The box recommends trying them on salad, but I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Big Island Pineapple: HOLY AMAZING BATMAN! It's almost like candy, like a grown up fruit snack. Slightly tart, slightly sweet, chewy and delicious. I had to restrain myself from eating the whole bag. This was my favorite thing I've had from Nature Box so far. I'm part Brazilian and sometimes for cookouts we slice pineapples and sprinkle them with a little cinnamon and sugar and grill them. This is almost like an easier to eat, more portable version and I think I may even like this better.
Whole Wheat Blueberry Figgy Bars: These are really great too. NatureBox has a few variants on the Figgy Bar and this Blueberry one was great. Slightly sweet, but a great little individually wrapped way to kill a craving.

I've been really satisfied with Nature Box and it has really helped keep my snacking in check. Instead of reaching for unhealthy options, I have great healthy snacks on hand. I definitely recommend trying it out.
